A soccer kick is a dynamic movement where force is generated across the entire kinematic chain. This model shows force generated from the follow movements:
  • Twisting the torso
  • Flexing the right hip
  • Extending the right knee
  • Plantar flexion of the right ankle
  • These combined movements act to generate a high foot velocity at impact.
Notice how the player is leaning away from the ball? This lean allows them to swing their leg further and increases the effective lever arm of the leg to generate more force. Elite soccer players tend to follow this same movement during high power kicks.
